One popular strategy among scammers involves sending fake text messages, either directly to your phone or through messaging apps and social networking sites. These messages often ask for money and link to scammy sites. To help you spot these scams, we've now added new search capabilities and lenses that will help you spot telltale signs to protect yourself from being scammed. Here's how to use it:
To use this with a circle to search:
- Just press the home button or navigation bar of your Android device
- Circle the suspicious text
This capability is available through Lens, through the Google app (Android and iOS) in three short steps:
- Take a screenshot of the message
- Open Lens in the Google app
- Tap the screenshot
After following these steps on your device, our programs will use AI and information from the web to check whether the message is likely to be genuine. You will see a comprehensive view with guidance and understanding including the next steps.
This capability is globally available around the search and lens, and will appear when our systems have high confidence in the quality of the response.
