Modern Data And Application Engineering Breaks Business Content Loss | by Bernd Wessely | January, 2025

Here's how your data maintains business relevance as it moves through your business

I have previously written about the need to redefine the current discipline of data engineering. I looked at it primarily from an organizational perspective and explained what a data engineer should and should not be responsible for.
The main argument was that business logic should be the concern of application engineers (developers) while everything about data should be the concern of data engineers. I advocated a redefinition of data engineering as “all about movement, manipulation, and data management”.
Now, in fact, the conceptual representation created by the software engineers also leads to the data. Depending on which angle we look at this, it means we either have a technology gap or a huge overlap at the intersection of data and logic.
So let's roll up our sleeves and generally take responsibility for maintaining the dependency between logic and data.
