In honor of the International Year of Quantum Technology, I plan to write as many articles as possible about various aspects of the quantum field. However, in order to discuss deeper and more technical topics, I need to first explain the basics enough for everyone to understand later.

Quantum computers are systems that use the power of quantum physics and mechanics to perform calculations. In order for me (or anyone, really) to explain how quantum computers can be better at solving certain problems or how they can solve these problems, we first need to discuss how they work.

Quantum computers are powerful because they can use interference, superposition, and entanglement. If you already know about these concepts, great; if not, stay tuned for my next article, which will go deeper into them.

Let's take a quick approach first and discuss why ML, AI, and software engineers might benefit from learning the basics of quantum computing. For ML and AI developers, Quantum Machine learning is a topic at the intersection of quantum mechanics and machine learning.
