Supporting Africa's mission is modern data systems

Public data is critical to solving big challenges, and in Africa, it is the fuel for an AI-driven future. To help realize these areas, Google is committing $2.25 million to help modernize the continent's data systems, making them accessible and ready for the age of AI.
This money will develop the data commons, our open source of information that organizes public data into a single, reliable resource. In partnership with the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), we will help launch a regional data commons in Africa. We also support Paris21 (collaboration on development statistics in the 21st century) to provide AI training and technical support to National Statistics Offices. Together, these efforts will help turn disaggregated data into actionable information for policymakers, supporting everything from food security to economic development.
